11 luglio Family and friendsDon't forget to let your friends and family know how much you appreciate them. I have some wonderful friends and family. And I have some friends and family that make me angry but I still love them. I have been making time to spend talking and doing activities with friends and family. It is very worthwhile! Have a wonderful day to all of you and know that I love and appreciate you all! World EconomyWhen did the USA get so involved in the World economy? Why can't we take care of our own country first and then others? We have so many needs of our people here and yet because of politics things can't be taken care of the way they should. When are the prices of gas and utilities and insurance and houses going to come down? When are the salaries and hourly wages going to go up? Why do people from other countries get better treatment here than those of us that grew up here? I know so many people of all walks of life struggling (including myself) and it just shouldn't be this way in this country. What are ways we can make changes? TimeTime
Never enough time Always rushing to and fro Oh it makes my head ache so Bills to pay Someone wanting to have the last say We need to stop and look around us Forget about all the fuss Enjoy the scenery Smile at that person who is so ornery Forget about yourself Put your ego on the shelf Make the time Give a dime So take the time to care It doesn’t hurt to share. Never enough time 05 giugno Make your life count! This weekend was filled with family fun times at a family reunion and also family sad times. My mom, dad, brother and I attended a memorial service for an older gentleman from the church I grew up in. In the past 2 months that family has had 2 sons and now the father die. The church was overflowing with people for the service. It was a very touching ceremony. Two preachers did the service. One was the past preacher and one was the current preacher. Hymns were sang and there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Music was played and sung while videos were shown of this family. The message came across from both preachers that God is greater than all our sorrows. Also, it was a lesson to all of us not to take life for granted and to spend time with friends and family and to live our life for God. 22 maggio Fun in the SunOk, I admit it I need a vacation!!!!! I want sun and fun in the sun!!! But it will have to wait for now. Whew! Always hurry up and wait!
May has been interesting so far.
I had a visit from my brother,sister-in-law and niece. That was really nice!
My roof still isn't fixed from the tornados 2 months ago. Nothing leaking yet but it is close.
Several closings had to be delayed due to houses needing roofs or siding replaced due to the tornados.
I have seen several other movies worth seeing. One was "In Her Shoes" and one was "Monster In Law". I will have to get the names of some of the others.
I listed an awesome house and have shown several great ones, too.
That's all for now. 28 aprile Well that was an interesting month!Well, I turned 39 this month and all heck broke loose! This month has been just plain stupid! Thank goodness it is almost over. But I have to keep busy because I have a whole lot of things to accomplish by my 40th birthday!
I had to take my continued education classes this month so I can renew my real estate license. Some of the classes were fantastic and others just a total waste of time. Anyway, now that is over for another year. Whew!
I have watched more movies this month. I enjoy movies!! I also read 3 books this month. I have to do something in the middle of the night!
For Easter I went to sunrise service and breakfast with my mom and daddy. It was great except the service was too short and they didn't serve communion. Weird! Then I went to my grandpa's farm. My grandparents on my biological father's side are still living. They are 96. My father and my stepmom live there, too. I got to see my dog. They are keeping her until I get another place where I can keep her. I played golf with one of my nephews and then played pitch and catch with my nephew and my dog. 23 marzo Movie ReviewsMovie review time:
This is a must see family friendly movie! It is called "Dreamer" starring Kurt Russell,Kris Kristofferson,Dakota Fanning, and Elisabeth Shue. It is based on a true story about a horse and a family. There is no cussing in this movie and no sex scenes and yet it is an awesome movie! Rent the DVD and watch all the special features first. It has a lot of info and it is fun to see how they put it all together. It is a story about having faith to try, never giving up, and having the courage to stand up for what you believe is right, and to take chances. It is about families mending old wounds and finding a common goal. Oh and there are some beautiful scenes shot in Lexington Kentucky. Wonderful horse country. I have personally met Kurt Russell and he is the real deal. He is a gentleman and opens doors for people and he truly cares about other people. He and Goldie Hawn are very committed to each other and when they are together they are really kind to each other and very funny, too. I never heard either of them cuss. Maybe in some movies they have had to for their roles but I would say it isn't very often. I would put this movie "Dreamer" on the list to see soon.
OH, add "Walk the Line" to the must see list, too! Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Phoenix did amazing jobs portraying June Carter and Johnny Cash! No wonder they won awards! I have seen June Carter and Johnny Cash many times live in concert over the past 38 years. My dad and my uncle both sang and played Johnny Cash songs. Plus when I was in Tennessee I went to see the Carter Family in Virginia. So I know a bit about the families. I was astonished at how well Reese and Joaquin played and sang. I sense a sequel in the next few years due to the fact they left the story just when June and Johnny finally got married. There are still approx. 35 years to cover from that time until their deaths. 21 marzo Blue LawThe Blue Law info and discussions to follow:
blue law n.
blue laws
Origin: 1781
During the American Revolution, Connecticutters were shocked--yes, shocked!--to learn that a book by a pro-British American traitor had been published in London that portrayed their early days as grim and gloomy. Rather than celebrating Connecticut for establishing the first English-speaking self-government entirely independent of the Mother Country (1617), the 1781 book by the Reverend Samuel Peters condemned the harshness of Puritan laws in the seventeenth-century Commonwealth of Connecticut. He called them "Blue Laws; i.e. bloody Laws; for they were all sanctified with whippings, cutting off the ears, burning the tongue, and death." The laws of early Connecticut included, for example, a five-shilling fine for absence from church on the Lord's Day. For a burglary committed on Sunday, in addition to the usual penalties the burglar had an ear cut off, and a third Sunday burglary meant the death penalty, there being no more ears. Lying or swearing earned time in the stocks. There were fines for playing cards, dice, or shuffleboard in public. Drinkers at inns were limited to half a pint of wine, and no alcohol was served after 9 P.M. Peters says the early colonists spoke of laws like these as blue laws, but the term seems to be his own invention. It is thanks to his General History of Connecticut that blue laws entered the language as a term for laws that enforce a strict morality and godly behavior. Peters also set the tone of disapproval that blue laws conveys; to label a law a blue law is to imply that it is a vain attempt to enforce old-fashioned Puritan morality and is probably an invasion of privacy and infringement of liberty to boot. Later authors adopted the term blue laws for their own criticisms of laws they saw as unduly harsh or moralistic, but some imagined a milder origin. Blue, they claimed, came simply from the blue paper on which the laws were supposedly printed, or the blue covers in which they were supposedly bound. blue laws, legislation regulating public and private conduct, especially laws relating to Sabbath observance. The term was originally applied to the 17th-century laws of the theocratic New Haven colony, and appears to originate in A General History of Connecticut (London, 1781), by the Loyalist Anglican clergyman Samuel A. Peters, who had lived in Hebron, Conn. New Haven and other Puritan colonies of New England had rigid laws prohibiting Sabbath breaking, breaches in family discipline, drunkenness, and excesses in dress. Although such legislation had its origins in European Sabbatarian and sumptuary laws, the term “blue laws” is usually applied only to American legislation. With the dissolution of the Puritan theocracies after the American Revolution, blue laws declined; many of them lay forgotten in state statute books only to be revived much later. The growth of the prohibition movement in the 19th cent. and early 20th cent. brought with it other laws regulating private conduct. Many states forbade the sale of cigarettes, and laws prohibited secular amusements as well as all unnecessary work on Sunday; provision was made for strict local censorship of books, plays, films and other means of instruction and entertainment. Although much of this legislation has been softened if not repealed, there are still many areas and communities in the United States, especially those where religious fundamentalism is strong, that retain blue laws. The Supreme Court has upheld Sunday closing laws ruling that such laws do not interfere with the free exercise of religion and do not constitute the establishment of a state religion.
blue laws
Laws that prohibit certain businesses from opening on Sunday or from selling certain items on that day. Blue laws often apply to bars and to alcohol sales. Originally enacted to allow observation of Sunday as a Sabbath, blue laws have come under attack as violating the separation of church and state. The courts, however, have upheld most blue laws, on the basis that their observance has become secular and promotes Sunday as a day of rest and relaxation. The noun blue law has one meaning: Meaning #1: a statute regulating work on Sundays Blue Laws
State and local regulations banning various activities on Sundays are called "blue laws." The origin of the term is uncertain. It has been said variously to have originated in the color of the paper on which a code of laws for the early New Haven, Connecticut, colony was printed or to have derived from the concept of being "true blue" to the law. Whatever the origin, these measures, which are based on the biblical injunction against working on the Sabbath, have been traced back to fourth-century Rome, when Constantine I, the first Christian emperor, commanded all citizens, except farmers, to rest on Sunday. The first blue law in America was enacted in the Virginia colony in the early 1600s and required church attendance. About three-fourths of the states still carry on their books laws imposing some kind of Sunday restriction on such activities as retail sales, general labor, liquor sales, boxing, hunting, or barbering, as well as polo, cockfighting, or clam digging. These laws have been challenged in federal courts as a violation of the Sherman Anti-trust Act and the First Amendment guarantee of freedom of religion. The Supreme Court has upheld them, starting with McGowan v. Maryland (1961), ruling that though the laws originated for religious reasons, the state has a right to set aside a day of rest for the well-being of its citizens. Nevertheless, Sunday blue laws have declined since the 1960s. A number of states have repealed them, and many municipalities have long ignored those still on their books, simply choosing not to enforce them. blue law
A blue law, in the United States and Canada, is a type of law restricting activities or sales of goods on Sunday, which had its roots in accommodating Christian Sunday worship, although it persists to this day more as a matter of tradition. The term blue law may have been first used by Reverend Samuel Peters in his book General History of Connecticut, which was first published in 1781, to refer to various laws first enacted by Puritan colonies in the 17th century which prohibited the selling of certain types of merchandise and retail or business activity of any kind on certain days of the week (usually Sunday). In Texas, for example, blue laws prohibited selling housewares such as pots, pans, and washing machines on Sunday until 1985; Texas as well as Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Minnesota car dealerships continue to operate under blue-law prohibitions in which an automobile may not be purchased or traded on a Sunday. Many U.S. states still prohibit selling alcohol on Sunday, or at least before noon on Sunday. Many unusual features of American culture — such as the fact that one can buy groceries, office supplies, and housewares from a drug store — are the result of blue laws, as drug stores were generally allowed to remain open on Sunday to accommodate emergency medical needs. The ubiquitous "weekend" is also a result of blue laws, although it is practiced nearly worldwide, except in some Islamic countries which have their weekend on Thursday and Friday. HistoryContrary to popular belief, there is no evidence to support the assertion that the blue laws were originally printed on blue paper. Rather, the word blue was commonly used in the 18th century as a disparaging reference to rigid moral codes and those who observed them (e.g., "bluenoses"). Moreover, although Reverend Peters claimed that the term blue law was originally used by Puritan colonists, his work has since been found to be unreliable, and it is more likely that he simply invented the term himself. In any event, Peters never asserted that the blue laws were originally printed on blue paper, and this has come to be regarded as an example of fake etymology. Another version is that the laws were first bound in books with blue covers. (See related article :Blue laws) It is highly likely that all blue laws stem from the first such statute set down by the Emperor Constantine 1300 years before the Puritans:
Many European countries still place strong restrictions on store opening hours on Sundays, an example being Germany's Ladenschlussgesetz. Bergen County, New JerseyOne of the last remaining blue laws in the United States that covers virtually all selling is found in Bergen County, New Jersey. It has produced the ironic situation that one of the largest and most popular commercial shopping cores of the New York metropolitan area is almost completely closed on Sunday (grocery stores are allowed to operate). The county is not considered a particularly religious area of the U.S.; it also has significant Jewish and Muslim populations whose observant members would not be celebrating the Sabbath on Sunday. However, repeated attempts to lift the law have failed as many locals either see keeping the law on the books as a protest against the growing trend toward increasing hours and days of commercial activity in American society or like the lack of traffic on major local roads on Sunday that is normally seen the other days of the week. In fact, a large part of the reason for maintaining the laws has been a desire for relative peace and quiet one day of the week by many Bergen County residents, particularly those of Paramus, New Jersey, where many of the shopping malls of Bergen County are located. Court CasesThe Supreme Court of Canada, in the case of Her Majesty The Queen in Right of Canada v. Big M Drug Mart Ltd., [1985] (1 S.C.R. 295) ruled that the 1906 Lord's Day Act, that required most places to be closed on Sunday did not have a legitimate secular purpose, and was an unconstitutional attempt to establish a religious-based closing law in violation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Supreme Court of the United States held in McGowan v. Maryland (1961) that Maryland's blue laws violated neither the Free Exercise Clause nor the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. While such laws originated to encourage attendance at Christian churches, the contemporary Maryland laws were intended to promote the secular values of "health, safety, recreation, and general well-being" through a common day of rest. That this day coincides with the Christian Sabbath neither reduces its effectiveness for secular purposes nor prevents adherents of other religions from observing their own holy days. The status of blue laws vis-à-vis the Free Exercise Clause conceivably would have to be re-evaluated if challenged by an adherent of a religion which required the conduct of commerce on Sunday. Help with photosTo all out there who might be able to offer suggestions I have a problem with adding photos to my site. Are we only allowed so many photos? I tried to create another photo album and I can add a title but no photos. What is up with that? See I don't know enough about how all this works. Please help. 19 marzo AwardsAwards given out by companies to their employees or even to the self-employed workers is a good thing. It boosts the morale of the person and causes other people to want to excel to receive the awards. Some people may say bragging on yourself is bad but, in this time of life when there is so much negative out there, it is good to know you did a great job and to have someone acknowledge that fact. One of my friends recently was rewarded for all his hard work and extra attention he gives his customers and their problems. He finds solutions that others missed or dismissed because they didn't want to deal with the extra hassle. That is excellent customer service. I also have always held the opinion that it is better to go that extra step and solve the problem yourself instead of pawn it off on someone else. I attended an awards banquet in St. Louis this weekend. It was held for 4 states and there were many awards given out for going above and beyond the normal call of duty of their job to help their clients. I had the opportunity to meet many new people and be inspired by all they do. It made me realize that no matter what business we may be in the real heart of the matter is the people. StormsA week ago we had powerful storms and tornados hit Missouri. Many homes, cars and businesses were affected. My niece had the back windshield of her car busted out with the force of hail. We had golf ball sized hail in our neighborhood. Some areas had baseball sized hail. Whew! I was taking my other niece back home out of the area and missed the storms. Where I was it was sunny and windy and as I was driving toward the storms I took some awesome pictures. I will post them so all can see. 09 marzo LearningI have spent some time recently learning how to crotchet. I enjoyed getting together with my sister-in-law Shawn to go over patterns. It is something that isn't as easy as it looks. It takes time and patience. Both of which I don't have but am learning to make the time and effort. As soon as I complete something I will take a picture and post to this site.
Also, I have been meeting new people at church. Mostly women and children but it is nice to have new friends as well as old friends. I enjoy the praise and worship music there, too.
Tonight I am going to a high school play with my niece Christa and my mom. Christa just turned 14 and enjoys drama, plays, and musicals so we try to take her when we can. 21 febbraio Out of the Comfort ZoneLast night I went out of my comfort zone and attended an open mike night at a local establishment. This was due to the fact that my youngest stepson Robert was in town and his band was playing there. It was a kind of folksy place where all types of music were played including blues, rock, folk, and swing. I was also introduced to Robert's new girlfriend. Robert and I had a good time and a wonderful conversation about many issues. He apolozized for his dad treating me badly. He understood what happened but still misses me, too. In fact he thanked me for helping him with many things and he told me I have been a better mother to him than his biological mother. That was a teary moment. He is being shipped out to Army basic training next week. He will be in South Carolina for 8 weeks and then Virginia for 22 weeks and then who knows where. I had some poems and some encouraging things and some Scripture verses on a bandana for him. He really appreciated it! We will hopefully be able to stay in contact. 20 febbraio Life's a CircleOh how strange life is. It is a circle that just keeps going round and round. We cross people's lives and then lose touch and then get back in touch. This happens over and over again throughout our life. The question is why do we lose contact in the first place? Hmm......
We each play a part in people's lives and other people play a part in ours. It is very interesting when events happen to cause changes in our lives.
Anyway, now I am also back at church. I found a place to attend this weekend. It is near where I live and I will get to know some neighbors. This will be a good thing.
I am also getting back into my music and trying out for a group. I am writing poems and stories again, too.
11 febbraio Check these out!Check out these sites. One is a music site. www.paultodd.com and the other is a site to help teenagers. www.battlecry.com The first reminded me of another friend and the second challenged me to get involved in lives of others. On another note, the 2006 Winter Olympics starts in Tourino,Italy. Wow, those athletes amaze me!!! 08 febbraio Issues!OK, I will have to get the Scriptures later but it doesn't say people can't remarry. If the marriage is over due to several reasons then that is that. There are Scriptural reasons for divorce. It does say it is better to marry than to burn for each other and sin in that. I know from family experience that my dad cheated on my mom and my mom wanted to work things out. He didn't. So they were divorced. Later he remarried first to someone else and then a few years later she remarried to someone else. I know that both sides have now been married to their spouses for 30 and 28 years. Something must have worked differently the second time. I know God has forgiven all involved and that none of the mentioned live each day in sin just because they remarried. When reconcilliation isn't possible then people have to go on. I for one am angry that I as a child of divorced parents I ended up divorced, too. But my divorce had nothing at all to do with any of my parents. I do think that when the Bible was translated into English from the Greek and Hebrew we could have lost some lessons. Maybe when King James translated it was church tradition to keep matters of sex quiet. I know that Jesus was tempted in many ways. Well, he was a man and there were women then. Plus he had brothers and sisters who would have had issues, too. SO why weren't any of these issues talked about in the Bible? 31 gennaio OH MY!Well, things certainly get interesting when Patti and I take a road trip! One time I ended up dating a guy that worked at a rest stop and this time I hit a deer. I prefer the two legged bucks not the four legged ones.
My car will be ok and thankfully Patti and I are ok. It could have been so much worse! God was watching out for us!
Sometimes I feel I live the life like the characters on "Friends". Anyway...spending time with friends is still a great part of life that I don't take time for oftten enough. Work consumes my time and then family and then friends. God of course is in there apart of it all. But not the center like He would be if I allowed Him to be. See even I struggle with things. That is part of being human.
Patti, thanks for being my best friend!
Brett, thanks for making me think and also laugh! Love you both! 04 gennaio LegacyLegacy: What I want mine to be throughout my life1. Believe in God

Attending several funeral visitations lately has made me aware of the fact that we all have such a short time on this earth to make a difference. People from all walks of life have things happen and everyone wants to know that someone cares. Whether it is spending time with friends and family or doing something nice for a complete stranger let us all let God shine His Light thru us!
I have also had the wonderful opportunity to spend time with friends lately and I just want to tell everyone how much I appreciate them and value their friendship! 07 dicembre Holiday gatherings!Oh life is fun at times!
